The Ngati Rangiteaorere Claims Committee (NRCC) are heavily involved in the defence of the Ngati Rangiteaorere home lands, supporting applicants filing claims in the Maori Land Court against the trustees of several trusts that have alienated land and resources without the proper consultation and consent of the Trust beneficial owners and Ngati Rangiteaorere.
The Treaty claims work has been constrained but still continues with the Crown agreeing to appoint a Facilitator, Sir Wira Gardiner, to assist the Hapu deal with these critical land and resources issues in the context of the claim.
Members of Ngati Rangiteaorere are encouraged to email info@rangiteaorere.com to ensure all their contact details are up to date so that they can receive updates on these issues by email, text messages and ordinary mail.
Ngati Rangiteaorere hui over the last two years have been very well attended and continued participation by the people is imperative for the overall wellbeing of the hapu, particularly in these critical times dealing with the Claim and trust issues.
TIKANGA AND TE REO MAORI PROGRAMMES were conducted in 2009/2010 based at Mataikotare marae. It is hoped these programs can be resumed in the near future. The programmes were open to all descendants whose primary allegiance is to Rangiteaorere. Wananga were led by exponents of Te Arawa in their respective fields e.g. waiata moteatea - Kipa Morehu, whaikorero - Henare Morehu and Aunty Kaa Wiringi takes our young wahine for kai-karanga wananga. The aim is to upskill and to build the capacity of our tribe as they will be the future leaders of Ngati Rangiteaorere.

SPECIALIST REPORTS A number of reports were commissioned from experts in their respective fields for the purpose of assisting Ngati Rangiteaorere with its treaty claim. These reports focussed on water - hot water, cold water and sea water, the common thread that binds the tribes of Nga Puna Wai o te Toko Toru - Tapuika, Ngati Rangiwewehi and Ngati Rangiteaorere. Other reports looked at ways of managing and developing our natural resources e.g. Lake Rotokawau and the potential for salmon farming. Reports also included options for governance structures as we move towards setting up a governance entity that will receive the settlement.
